Let's Talk Weight Loss.

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is a cornerstone of health, but for many men and women, it can be a challenging journey with one step forwards, two steps back. Often maintaining a healthy weight can be influenced by hormonal imbalances, and lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress can also play a huge role. Our goal at Unique Health is always to optimize your health, and when this happens often weight loss falls into place. As we age, hormonal changes can lead to increased fat, slowed metabolism, and decreased muscle mass. These can often make weight loss an uphill battle. But, by working with you at Unique Health, we can uncover hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and other lifestyle factors that might have been holding you back for years. By customizing your weight loss plan to your unique situation, we can help you lose the weight, and keep it off for good!

We Can Help With:

Menopause is often a time where we see the pounds slowly add to the scale. Hormone shifts, lifestyle choices, sleep habits, and stress can certainly play a role in the menopause symptoms we see. We can help you identify hormonal imbalances that could be contributing to weight gain so that we can correct them.

PCOS, or polycystic ovarian syndrome, can often contribute to unwanted weight gain. However, other factors such as inflammation and hormones can play a major role in maintaining a healthy weight in people experiencing PCOS. We work with you to identify any imbalances in labwork, and customize your treatment to focus reducing inflammation, improving sleep, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

PCOS

When the body is stressed, cortisol levels are often higher than usual. This 'fight or flight' hormone can often contribute to increased inflammation and difficulty in losing weight. We help you identify how stress is impacting you by checking labwork, and through a thorough medical history help you identify specific lifestyle adjustments that could make a big difference in your stress - and therefore weight loss - over time.

Stress

As men age, testosterone can slowly decrease, leading to a slowed metabolism and gradual weight gain. By looking at specific pieces of labwork as well as lifestyle and medical history, we work with you to rebalance hormone levels that might be making weight loss challenging.

Low Testosterone

When the body doesn't get enough sleep, weight loss efforts can become particularly futile. Poor sleep in itself can cause increased levels of inflammation, as well as changes in hormones that can contribute to hunger and even to a preference to eating unhealthy foods! We help you identify small lifestyle changes that can make a big difference in your sleep health over time, and also check labwork to identify opportunities to support your sleep health from the inside out.

Got Weight Loss Questions? We Have Answers.

  • I was told I need weight loss surgery. Can you help?

Yes! Weight loss surgery can be daunting to plan for, and putting the right lifestyle habits in place to support your journey is critical. Whether you have surgery scheduled, or are potentially looking to avoid surgery altogether, we can help.

  • Do you recommend a specific diet?

Diets often promote the idea that something done short term will help you lose weight quickly and keep it off. Nothing could be further from the truth. A healthy and balanced lifestyle, (and healthy and balanced hormones!) will lead to a healthy weight in the long term. We work with you to identify opportunities to support your health, stress, hormone levels, and lifestyle choices, leading to healthy weight loss not fueled by an ultra-restrictive diet.

  • I was told I might need to take supplements following my weight loss surgery. Can you help?

Absolutely. We work directly with patients preparing for gastric surgery to prepare for the event, and also prepare for life after surgery. This may include continuing a regimen of high quality vitamins to support your health with an altered digestive tract.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Because you and your health are our #1 priority, we do not work with insurance providers. Through our decades of experience, we unfortunately have found that insurance often dictates treatments and treatment options, and that often does not correlate with what is truly best for the health of the patient. By not accepting insurance, we are able to spend more time with you and less time on the phone with insurance providers, allowing us to charge LESS for our services and provide more personalized, thoughtful care to you.

  • Do you do labwork?

We do! We can obtain samples for labwork at the time of your consultation with us, and will go through all of the details of your results with you when they come in. No need for an extra trip to another lab!

  • What will my first appointment be like?

At your first appointment, our Nurse Practitioner will get a full medical and lifestyle history and do a physical exam. We will also obtain labwork to get some baseline values for where we are starting, and plan to go through your labwork together when the results are back (usually about 2 weeks). From there, we formulate your customized treatment plan based on your needs and health goals.
